Several years ago when I launched my blog and really started getting into social media with it, I discovered that there was one aspect of fitness and weight loss on social media that broke my heart.
I saw an awful lot of young women posting anonymous accounts with pics of themselves, usually in underwear or a bathing suit, fat-shaming themselves, hating on their bodies and vowing they’d do anything to be thin. They would post a high weight, current weight and goal weight in their profile. They’d share unrealistic fitspo and scary thinspo photos.
I see so much pain and self-loathing there, and I understand – because when I was their age, I was just like them.
Whether this is done publicly on social media, or privately in your own notebook, the sentiment is the same.
I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self that healthy and fit beats skinny. That extreme dieting only wrecks your metabolism and backfires. That your happiness should not depend on a scale, because being a certain size does not make your life perfect and problem-free. That you should love and not hate yourself, whatever your weight. That you are worth so much more than a number on a scale.
Take care of yourself with good nutrition, daily moderate exercise, and love instead of hate. That really is key to success at weight loss and better health.
