Welcoming spring with open arms

March 14, 2016 By Michelle Rogers

Happy (almost) Spring! Today I’m starting something I’ve been wanting to do for a while on the blog, a weekly wrap-up. Here’s a quick update on the past week.

First of all, I am LOVING the wonderful warm weather we’ve been having here in North Carolina for the past several days. Highs in the 70s? Yes, please!

One of the best parts of that is I’ve been able to get back on my bike. One day when I got home from work, it was so perfect out that I had to take a sunset ride, even though I didn’t need another workout that day.

Speaking of spring, last week I had special visitors over and decided to try my hand at creating a simple centerpiece of fresh flowers for the dining table. I wanted it to coordinate with the rest of the decor, which is dark red with teal, yet still say “spring.” Here’s what I came up with.

I bought two bunches of red tulips, a square glass vase, wet floral foam, and a bag of glass beads, all from WalMart. I trimmed the tulips and arranged them in the foam in the base, then put beads in to hide the foam. Arranging this was a bit challenging because the tulips started opening as I was doing this. Then they kept opening and closing off and on, which kind of changes the composition at times. After doing this project, I have a new respect for florists, for sure! Anyway, I spent about $20 and half of that is reusable for future arrangements, so that’s not bad.

In other news, I’m continuing to study for my Group Fitness Instructor certification. It’s challenging, but at least the anatomy and physiology part is mostly a review of what I had to learn for my Certified Personal Trainer credential. It’s still a lot to remember, though. Plugging right along with it!

Speaking of exercise, if you’re looking for new workout music without breaking the bank, try the library. I’ve been able to find some great stuff there to add to my collection. This weekend, I came home with five CDs to load into iTunes, and two workout DVDs to try.

I’ve also been in a cooking and baking mood lately, and have updated or posted several new recipes on the blog, including oven fried chicken, roasted potatoes, simple southern cole slaw and banana muffins (both regular and gluten free). Yesterday, I made peanut butter cups for Easter — yum!! This easy recipe is now posted as well.

Decorate if desired, for a festive holiday touch

Are you doing any special activities or cooking this month? Please share in the comments!
