Pantone, the provider of professional color standards for the design industries, has named Marsala, “a naturally robust and earthy wine red,” as the color of the year for 2015.
“Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors,” said Eiseman.
The color is expected to play prominently in clothing, cosmetics and decorating in the coming year.
Spring 2015 fashion colors
“Soft, cool hues paired with nature’s neutrals” is how Pantone describes the color palette in its Spring 2015 Fashion Color Report, unveiled at New York Fashion Week in September.
“This season there is a move toward the cooler and softer side of the color spectrum,” said Eiseman. “Soft, cool hues blend with subtle warm tones to create a soothing escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.”
