If you’ve been following my blog, you know how much I love baking. So I was pretty excited to have the opportunity to review a cookbook, “Sweet Debbie’s Organic Treats: Allergy-Free and Vegan Recipes from the Famous Los Angeles Bakery,” by Debbie Adler.
Adler became interested in allergy-free baking after her son was born with multiple food allergies. Her recipes were so successful that in 2006 she opened her own allergen-free, vegan bakery in Los Angeles.
The cookbook is 146 pages and beautifully photographed. Included are recipes for a variety of baked sweets including muffins, cupcakes, donut holes, brownies, and breads.
Every one of the recipes looks delicious. But what really sets this book apart from some others is the educational component Adler includes. There is a very helpful, comprehensive list explaining the common ingredients used in allergy-free baking, such as guar gum, natural sweeteners, and the many different varieties of wheat-free flours. There is also a list of resources of where to find ingredients.

With this book, you will not only be able to make the treats, you’ll understand a lot more about what’s required for this type of baking. Because the fact is, allergy-free baking is not as simple as regular baking. It’s more time-consuming and costly, because of some of the ingredients needed. But for those whose dietary needs require it, this book offers a way for the whole family to enjoy delicious special treats.
The cookbook is available for a very reasonable price on Amazon.com. And I’m warning you, it is crave-inducing. Enjoy!
I was provided this book to review by Sweet Debbie’s. Regardless, reviews reflect my honest opinion. This post contains Amazon affiliate links.
