Here’s a quick update on a few new things I’m doing.
Using MyFitnessPal
I’ve written before about using the app MyFitnessPal to track calories, but I’ve been an off-and-on, mostly off, user. Starting this week, I’m going to get more serious about tracking, in an effort to curb mindless snacking. The problem was, I’d be good about logging all day until dinnertime, then I’d get off track when I come home hungry.
If you’re on MyFitnessPal, add me as a friend. My username is MichelleHBB.
Starting a walking group at work
You may recall my mentioning that I enjoy taking a lunchtime walk at work. Tragically, in July a man was attacked and killed in a robbery not far from my building, when he was on a lunchtime walk. The area where I work has generally been considered safe, especially during the day, so this incident seemed to come out of nowhere and really shook me up. Taking a break to stretch and get some fresh air and sunshine is important to my physical and emotional well-being. I didn’t want to give it up.
What I decided to do is continue walking, but with some new personal rules: (1) to be sure I stay only in certain areas, and (2) see if others would be interested in walking with me, so that we don’t walk alone. Turns out there were, and I started a walking group of coworkers to walk for 20 minutes each day. That’s working out really well, and was a small way to help make something positive come out of something so negative.
