I just found out about a new movie coming out that combines some of my favorite things — hiking, the outdoors, journaling, and Reese Witherspoon!
Called “Wild,” it’s described as a chronicle of one woman’s 1,100-mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent catastrophe:
With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed has lost all hope. After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision. With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone. WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.
The film is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, of the Oscar-winning film “Dallas Buyer’s Club;” and also stars Thomas Sadoski, Michiel Huisman, W. Earl Brown, Gaby Hoffman, Kevin Rankin, Laura Dern and Keene McRae. It is scheduled for release on Dec. 5, 2014.
The movie is based on Strayed’s memoir, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.
I don’t go to a lot of movies these days, but I can’t wait to see this one. What do you think — will you be seeing “Wild”?
