Homemade trail mix slashes hunger

May 11, 2014 By Michelle Rogers

Last week I started making my own trail mix to use for snacks instead of protein bars or granola bars. Well, guess what – I’m so glad I did, because my hunger was slashed!

Usually after eating protein bars or any other snacks with carbs, I’d be hungry again soon after. With the nuts and a bit of dark chocolate, I feel completely satisfied. Wish I’d thought of this sooner!

I’ve just mixed up a fresh batch for the coming week. And it’s so simple, no need to pay more for the pre-mixed kind.

Just make sure you don’t buy nuts with additives like MSG, if you’re like me and want to “eat clean.” Many brands have that crap in there, so you really have to read the ingredients. Also, I prefer nuts with no salt or low salt. I found mine at Trader Joe’s.

For this batch, I used peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, raisins, and Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips.

What is your hunger-killing power snack? Please share in the comments!
